Mentoring Program
The purpose of the Sunshine Coast Mentoring Program is to promote and support good practice in mentoring. As such, it aims to enhance a range of existing programs and initiatives, as well as support and resource emerging mentoring initiatives. We believe that, by taking this approach, we will be best able to achieve sustainable outcomes and that, by encouraging diversity in mentoring strategies, we will foster vibrant and vital community responses to the needs of young people on the Sunshine Coast, in the Wide Bay area and in Brisbane North.
SCMP has a very strong commitment to school based mentoring. SCMP is a proud supporter of the many high schools who wish to implement and continue school based mentoring during school hours. SCMP endeavours to build a strong partnership with both state and private schools to offer safe and committed mentors for students of the respective school utilising this innovative program.
Integrated Family and Youth Services Inc. is committed to the safety of young people and adults and consequently uses one of the most comprehensive and thorough screening, training and supervision procedures of any volunteer organisation in Australia.
SCMP is also a proud supporter of a new mentoring format that was initiated by Chancellor Park State College. This new and exciting program is called, “I-journey”. It enlists the business sector of the community to offer mentors online to selected students who benefit for one hour weekly. SCILS or Sunshine Coast Industry Link Scheme, located in Warana Qld, has provided 18 employees to be matched with students from Chancellor Park State College. We look forward to being a proud supporter of this wonderful style of mentoring in the future.
Integrated Family and Youth Service (IFYS) is proud to be involved with a number of highly successful mentoring programs and we always strive to ensure we offer a safe and supportive service:
- Our focus is prevention before negative behaviour becomes destructive.
- Our method is via carefully screened and trained volunteer adults who become a friend and provide support for one hour per week during school hours.
- Our strength is providing unique, long term friendships for youth and adults.
- We are always exploring new forms and methods of mentoring.
- We support group activities between school mentoring co-ordinators, mentors and mentees to help give support to individuals and whole programs.
